She is one of the most recognised female faces on the gay scene. Her blonde hair, pouting lips and love for music drives her into the arms of the gay scene but has given her a taste for the Ibizan lifestyle. Her look is striking and she’s confident. Journalist, Promoter, PR, DJ whore…we caught up with Sylvia Rebel to ask her a few questions about love, politics, clubbing and wondered what it would be like if she ruled the world.

My name is Sylvia Murphy, but people know me as Sylvia Rebel.
My name is Sylvia Murphy, but people know me as Sylvia Rebel. I got this name when I was around 14 or 15 when I use to be obsessed with a band called Red Star Rebels, a Glam rock unsigned band who were brilliant. I would follow them everywhere and they would get me into to their gigs under age. This is really where it all started. I went to college studying Media, Art, English and Performing Arts and later university of the arts where I studied Journalism. At Uni I applied for various work experience placements and worked for The Sun, South London Press, The Guardian, The BBC, Gay Times and loads more. However, one placement I done was at QX magazine which was only meant to be for a few weeks but I ended up staying for a few months. I felt at home and knew this was the scene for me. After completing my time at QX I was offered a freelance job which I still do to this day. I then started to flyer for Alex Erfan where I become really interested in promoting and was so inspired by his events. Shortly after I met Oliver M and become head of street promotions and shortly after that met Craig Elder, who gave me Gravity. I done Gravity for 10 months, it was the most enjoyable time of my life to date. I leant so many new skills and I found what I am really good at. At the same time I was working for The Orange Group on all of their events and done everything from assistant manager roles, to working in the office and just working on the nights. However, I recently gave up Gravity because I want to concentrate on some other projects in life now. Now I am currently working for Pacha night club, which is hard as I am such a small fish in a big pond but I am really enjoying it and it is a new chapter in life. I have a few amazing projects coming up at Pacha and at some other places which I won’t mention yet. I am also hoping to become a DJ as I love music unconditionally so as soon as I get my equipment there is no stopping me.
If you could have dinner with any person…who would they be and why them?
This might sound really lame, but George Michael. His music has got me thorough so much and I personally think he has been one of the most talented people to walk earth He is very close to home now, a lot of people I know, know him, but I still haven’t met my idol. I would love to get to know his background and his stories. I would also ask him to sing for me and faint.
If you ruled the world what one law would you pass?
Gay equality and everyone should have a home. Sorry I need two.
Passion is the best gift god can give you.
What do you like/dislike about yourself the most?
I like how passionate I am, if I want something nothing will stop me. Passion is the best gift god can give you. I also love my confidence and my obsessive nature- which really allows me to go into depth for a long period of time on anything that I love! I don’t like the way I think too much about something and then get confused haha. I get upset and easily confused in life sometimes and don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel but always seem to come out from it.
Which three people in your life have influenced you the most and why?
I don’t really have any big influences to be honest. But there are close people around me like Lee Dalloway Qx’s deputy head who has just been the best encouragement from day one. Some promoters have REALLY influenced me who I don’t want to mention. And Alan k who if you knew about you would know why and also he is one of the reasons why working in events was what I wanted to do.

.. living in Ibiza with my own weekly club night with my DJ/producer husband haha.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, because the boy I first knew I was going to be with last year when I met him DJing at a pre party is the boy who has been my first love who I still love now. He also showed me so much and I have leant so much from him.
Have you ever kissed a girl…and did you like it?
Yeah of course, nah, does nothing for me. I like a big, strong, controlling man.
Where do you think you will be in 10 years time?
Hopefully, married with two boys, and living in Ibiza with my own weekly club night with my DJ/producer husband haha.
Do you believe in God?
I believe in god, yes! I don’t like going into any deeper than that though because like I said, I am a thinker and I go mad. I come from a very spiritual family. And I know I have a guardian angel.
What’s the ‘next big thing’?
Take over the straight scene, but still work in the gay scene. I also want to try to get into journalism more and start DJING.
