After 10 years DETOX returned to the club scene in the new Orange Nation club, Covert.
D’Johnny & Per QX lead the beats while an eclectic mix of clubbers and plethora of off duty DJs gathered to pay homage to this former underground Soho club. Both Per & Johnny who were playing back to back and whipped the enthusiastic crowd into a frenzy with some wicked funky, electro and tech inspired house grooves. They played the perfect balance between accessible and underground.
The music was excellent, and we can see why D’Johnny remains one of London’s most loved DJs and Per QX one of London’s more cutting edge….and together they are a force to be reckoned with
The venue itself has a back to basics look. Nothing hi-tech or flashy, just bare brick walls, nicely illuminated bars spaces, two distinct rooms, basic lighting and a good, if a times, a little ear piercing sound (still working it out I gather). This minimal feel certainly makes it feel more underground, perfect for those slightly off centre clubs like Delooded and Detox. There was a a lot of chatter about the Victorian styled street lights, I mean, what were they thinking? Apart from that we could see there was more work to be done, but we certainly liked the rawness of the venue which means it could be dressed up or down for a variety of clubs.
