We first heard of Done & Dusted when they were hired to play at As One in the Park. Made up of Alan X who we know from the Crash years and and Louis Lennon a DJ we are not that familiar with but have heard of his work with Audio Orgy. Both DJs come from different directions, and while Alan X may have more years under his belt, this collaboration of combining something familiar with the exciting outcome of creating something new meant we just had to catch up with them to find out who, what and where is Done & Dusted.
SQ: Give us a history of your individual careers to this point.
Done & Dusted are DJs Alan X and Louis Lennon.
Alan X established his DJ name with his London based Pleasure Zone club. His residencies have included Crash, Beyond, Heaven, Salvation, PSP, Trade & DTPM (Room 2) with headline gigs at Birmingham Pride, Manchester Mardi Gras and Pride.
Overseas Alan has DJed alongside Danny Tenaglia and Ralphi Rosario at Roseland NYC, in Berlin at E-Werk, at Dirty Dancing and Studio 54 in the Czech Republic, for Sydney Mardi Gras Harbour Party Recovery, in Ibiza in the Trade room at Privilege, at The Burning Man event in Nevada, in Tel Aviv, Beirut and finally in South Africa with club Therapy.
For 15 years Alan’s Vital Vinyl / Housework column and weekly Music Chart in QX magazine stood as taste-maker reading for A&R Managers and DJs across the globe.
Louis Lennon is resident DJ at Audio Orgy. He has played Ministry Of Sound, Dusk Til Dawn and Area with residencies at Bear Necessity, slots at Tonker and overseas gigs at Madrid Pride and Paris. His regular Audio Orgy podcasts are consistently well received across the club scene and beyond.
As a double act, Done & Dusted are becoming established across the scene and producing new tracks for release in 2013. Their individual styles are well matched: phat, funky, progressive with an uplifting tech edge. Their sound is fresh, forward looking and worthy of attention.
The biggest surprise for us has been how quick people seem to have embraced our sound.
SQ: How did you guys get together?
We met at a (slightly trashy!) chillout in Brighton at Pride through mutual friends and connected talking about music. A few months later we were both playing one after the other for Bear Necessity at Area in Vauxhall and realised our taste and styles really complimented each other well. From there we decided to get together and start working on a few things. The production side goes hand in hand with the DJing and it’s all come together in quite an organic way.
SQ: How has the scene embraced Done & Dusted?
The biggest surprise for us has been how quick people seem to have embraced our sound. In just a few months we have managed to secure slots at the two big London festivals, As One In The Park and Summer Rites as well as playing regular slots for Wayne Shires and Manu at East Bloc and Firas Abiad at Bear Necessity. The crowd is always so amazing when we are playing!
SQ: What has been the highlight of you collaboration so far?
Playing at the Bear Necessity and East Bloc birthday events (both on the same night!) was pretty amazing – we had so much brilliant feedback!
We can’t say too much but are currently looking for a venue to start our own night…
SQ: Apart from Djing do you have productions?
We are just putting some finishing touches to our first EP, which is going to have 2 mixes each of 2 tracks: Feel It (Some More) and Playtime, which will be coming out later in the Summer.
SQ: What do you want the future to hold for Done & Dusted?
We can’t say too much but are currently looking for a venue to start our own night where we can establish a residency – somewhere we can play regularly where we can build a loyal following, that gives us the platform to break new tracks and develop songs into hits the crowd can love and enjoy.
We are talking to a few labels and developing future partners to sign our production work and get our sound out there.
